August is the month of music festivals, and though I didn't go to any, videos posted in stories by brouillon and Blood is the new black made me discover several bands, and I wanted to share them with you.
There will be pretty much only metal, with the stories of the Motocultor.
Brutus
The singer is also the drummer, which is quite impressive.
I would say that their type of music is metal, and their vocals are not screamed/growled, but tortured because their is so much emotion in the singer's voice. There's not so much text in their lyrics, so the instrument have more room to express themselves.
I think I already listened/seen the video of "War" because I recognize the moment "And war will aways be my guide", and I told myself "Oh, but this is where it's from!"
Scowl
How could I describe the musical style of this band, except maybe as a punk-metal-grunge band? This is what Scowl does, with really short songs (some of them are shorter than two minutes), with either some catchy melodies "she'll never be your animal / she's got her own personal hell", and either screamed/growled vocals with a rythm really jerky?
Their clips are pretty refreshing because of how raw they seem. Maybe other independent bands are also making videos like these, but I'm more used to bigger kpop productions or the neat videos from Nuclear Blast, so this is why I feel like it's bringing me something new and different.
Hanabie
Hanabie is my favourite discovery of this month. It's a metal bands of four japanese women, with rap parts, clean vocals, harsh vocals, and really colorful video clips, which have nothing in common with Scowl ones.
Many people were blown away by their style, and never heard anything like this before, so I read many times a comment like this under their videos :"Have you never heard about Maximum The Hormone?" I'll go check this other japanese band and listen more carefully their songs. You may already know their music, especially because of one of their songs, 'What's up, people ?!' used as the second opening for the anime Death Note.
In 'Reiwa Dating Apps Generation', their criticism of dating apps, and their use of the "Barbie" font to write "Hanabie" (which is pronounced "Hanabi-yeah") made me smile.
Everglow - 'Slay'
So, let's stop "the fight" and let's take a break with this kpop song, in a "girl boss"theme. "All my girls slayyy!"
I wanted to make the pictures of this post of musical discoveries looking like an album cover of this playlist - that you can find on Spotify-, so this is what I did:
What do you think? ๐
